After months/years of dreaming about it, I finally managed to procure a cheap LCD projector and with the aid of maptools, presented a digital board to the party. It was awesome.
Using maptools, I can provide a significant level of detail while still leaving something to the imagination of the players. Additionally, being able to interact with the map during combat is just fantastic. When Alexander cast a wall of fire, I was able to immediately draw the fire on the map. Since I was also using tokens for monsters, I was able to track some of the conditions the players imposed on them.
All in all, a great first effort that I hope I can expand on next session.
