Zipping Over the Castle Walls

With the attack underway, the party turned their attention to one of their last tasks, zipping from one tower, over the castle wall, and into the castle proper. Not wasting a moment, Mara grabbed the steel line Harbek had provided and launched it with her typical accuracy at the far off stone wall. Rudy, hardly waited for the arrow to embedding itself in the wall, quickly zipped over. With his usual grace he easily made it. Ekeraath followed, without the grace, but he landed safely. Unfortunately, they had been seen and a battle quickly erupted. Leenia, knowing Rudy and Ekeraath would probably need her healing, was the next to try the line. Unfortunately, she wasn't able to hold on and fell between the outer and inner walls. Hardly waiting for her to hit the ground, Kuppies made the zip to the other side.

Hobgoblin archers appeared on both towers and a small contingent of Hobgoblin soldiers, followed by a member of the Cult of the Infernal fang raced up the stairs toward the party. Rudy, having not seen the Tiefling raced up one of the towers in an attempt to end the fire from that side. Ekeraath and Kuppies prepared for battle and Alexander, who had NEVER successfully traversed a rope, safely made it over.

The battle on the tower was quick and deadly. Rudy arrived and with his first attack, bloodied one of the archers. Mara followed up with a pair of arrows that made sure the archer would never lift a bow again. Down on the wall, Ekeraath, Kuppies, and Alexander were knee deep in Hobgoblins. Leenia, realizing no one had the time to assist her started running for the main entrance to the castle.

With the arrival of the Tiefling on the wall, Rudy was bursting with rage to engage him. But his good sense(?!) won out and a repeat of the earlier round resulted on the tower, with Rudy bloodying the second archer, and Mara finishing him off.

Back on the melee front, the 3 heroes used many of their push powers in an effort to knock their enemies off the wall. With some success, one Hobgoblin ended up outside the wall and the Tiefling was pushed off the wall back toward the castle. Unfortunately for the party, he let loose a terrible power that enveloped and damaged all three of the heroes. Leenia continued her trek, and raced through the main castle doors, which had been opened to allow some troops out. Unfortunately, she was seen, and a pair of archers opened fire on her, while a pair of soldiers began pursuit.

Without wasting a breath, Rudy raced down the stairs and with reckless abandon threw himself off the wall, at the Tiefling, driving his weapon deep into it's body. Mara traded fire with the archers on the other tower and quickly dispatched one. Melee continued and the Hobgoblin losses began to mount.

A couple minutes later found the Tiefling, more of the Hobgoblin soldiers, and the two archers on the other tower all dead. Mara finally made the trip across the zipline. Hoping to end combat quickly, Rudy once again threw himself into a soldier and this time rode him down the stairs, taking out the two archers from the far tower that were chasing Leenia. With that, the remaining soldiers and archers were rounded up and dealt with.

Not to toot my horn too much, but I had been planning this encounter since you guys got to the city. And I think it went off excellently. If you really want a look into how things work in my head, once I had this idea, I needed a reason to use it, so I designed the whole nighttime tasks thing to culminate in this battle. And yes, I got the idea from one of Jules' shows.
