Trying to be unobtrusive, Rudy and Kuppies entered town, blending in with the rest of the mercenaries. It was not an easy thing, but the managed to convince Alexander to stay behind. Easily locating the bar, the bartender did have a letter for "Julius", but was not willing to part with it until Rudy and Kuppies showed him some gold. With the letter in hand, the two heroes escaped the city without incident.
To the Saviours of the Citadel,
If you are reading this, you received my first letter from Erdan and have opted to at least be interested in what I have to say. First, congratulations on thwarting Damakos’ theft of the Seal of the Seasons. His anger at his loss of that prize, was a fury I have never before seen. All of us on the boat feared for our lives. It took 2 days till he was even rational enough to converse with.
He spent the next couple days in deep meditation and then directed us here, to Pontyver. When we arrived, we were granted an immediate audience with, General Karag, the ruler of the city. As we entered the audience room, Karag immediately fell to one knee and handed the rulership to Damakos. Karag left a couple hours later and Damakos has ruled since then.
So far, his only decree has been to create gladiatorial games. All fights are to the death with the victor advancing to receive some unknown prize. These games have created quite a stir here as many of the toughest creatures here have been looking for a reason to assert their dominance over each other.
Since arriving, he has shown a great interest in necromancy. As part of this, he put us to work searching what was left of the library for anything related to Morbius. We later found out he was a necromancer who lived 5000 years earlier and had controlled this city for centuries before finally succumbing to death, or undeath, as no one knows exactly what happened to him.
The history of Morbius is very limited. As I stated before, he was a Necromancy of great power. He was one of the most skilled pupils ever instructed by Acererak the demi-lich. He was so powerful, it is theorized, like his master, he served both Vecna and Orcus simultaneously. What bargain those 2 struck regarding his soul, no one even dares to guess.
We also found a slight reference to a vault Morbius had constructed under the city. With that information in hand, Damakos descended into the sewers and began the search for an entrance. He has not informed us he found one, but I believe he has and even now toils to gain entrance to the vault and whatever exists inside.
I urge you to find an entrance to the sewers and eventually the vault. If he truly is attempting to find something Morbius locked away 5000 years ago, it certainly is something to be feared. Good luck.
