The Viper Circled Mirror

Stepping through the portal, the party found itself on a road running north/south. Heading to the north, an inn was discovered and the party checked in for the night. Spending some time in the common room, much was learned about Averoigne and the locations of the artefacts needed to summon the tomb of Stephen Amber. The most important thing the party learned was that magic is illegal. There are, of course, exceptions, or at least circumstances in which the law is ignored. Someone using their magic for good is certainly tolerated, at least in small doses. After meeting a troubadour, Gerard, the party opted to accompany him north to Vyones.

Approaching the city, the party found the populous all in the center of town listening to the mayor and then Gaspard Du Nord. Gaspard is the owner of the Viper Circled Mirror, one of the artefacts needed to find the tomb. Gaspard was once a student of the necromancer Nathaire before seeing the error in his ways and returning as a lawful citizen of Vyones. Unfortuntately, Nathaire has created an enormous golem like colossus. Gaspard remembers how to create a black powder, that when thrown in the face of the colossus will destroy it. Since Nathaire controls the colossus by magic jarring into it, this would destroy them both. Anyone who succeeds will be rewarded with 10,000 gp and the mirror.

Accepting the challenge, the pary learns Gaspard can only make 5 packets of the black powder and that the only way, without flight, to administer the powder is by throwing it from the top of the cathedral. Since the cathedral is only 70 feet tall, there is a substantial penalty to hit. Planning to utilize his jump spell, and ability to teleport, Kuppies can reach 100 feet in the air and then feather fall to the ground. He is given 2 packets since he will not have a penalty to hit. Ekeraath takes one and rushes to the top of the wall. Rudy and Mara each take a packet and join Kuppies on the roof of the cathedral. Alexander runs out of the city to attack the colossus headlong and Leenia follows him in hopes she won't have to scrape him off the ground after being stepped on.

Alexander's attack outside the walls, meets without success. Ekeraath is the next in line. However, his throw from the 50' foot high wall results in a very large to hit penalty and impacts the colossus without getting the powder into it's mouth. As the monster crashed through the town walls, KUppies, Mara, and Rudy prepared their attacks. As soon as it was possible, Kuppies jumped and teleported and found himself eye to eye with the massive colossus. Unfortunately, Jeff's inability to roll well resulted in two more misses. Mara's attempt faired just as poorly. Finally, the smallest man in town did what no one else could do. Rudy hurled his packet at the colussus and as the packet impacted on the creatures face, a large portion of the powder was inhaled and the creature destroyed.

As promised, Gaspard presented the party with 10,000 GP and the Viper Circled Mirror.

20/20 hindsight, but why the hell did we give Kuppies 2 of the things?
This is the guys who had 1 nigh of good rolls all campaign long. Now he only hits when he can hurt us with the splash damage. His new name should be Kuppies Friendbane or
Kuppies the Whiff or something like that.

Ouch!
A true irony is I was finally going to give Leenia something if she stopped and prayed in the cathedral. Something like a +1 to the player of her choice, for the length of combat.
Instead she chases Alexander out into the middle of no where hoping he doesn't become a pancake!
