Piloting the ship away from Tu'narath, the heroes looked back to see a flight of 4 dragon knights, mounted on red dragons in hot pursuit. The skiff, not being designed for speed quickly allowed the dragons to catch up.
The leader of the pursuing band asked for parlay and was granted it. Landing on the deck, he asked the party to return with him, forfeit what they had stolen, and face trial. To which the heroes responded, we killed your evil leader. They kept forgetting that to most Githyanki, Vlaakith was not evil. With the discussion going no where quickly, the leader told them he would simply have the dragons burn the ship and heroes to ash. Unimpressed with his threat, the heroes insulted him and he left.
Shortly after leaving, the attack came. Much to the heroes surprise, they were not the target of the attack, but the ship was. After a round of combat, the ship was on fire in three different places and the heroes had only hurt the leader of the flight. Alexander, doing his best to contain the fire, used an ice spell, hoping to put out or stop the fire. He succeeded in slowing it down, but could not put it out. Ekeraath, knowing he was of little use in a ranged battle, lept off the ship, hoping to land on a dragon. Unfortunately, his last step, on an unsecured crate, caused him to misjudge the leap, and he went over the dragon, finding himself afloat in the astral sea.
At this point, I have to apologize to Jeff/Kuppies. Early on, when the pursuit was first starting, I had given him the hint that the Idera ship was much faster than the skiff. To which he replied, "Can I call the ship?" I intentionally ignored that, because it would have prevented the whole parlay, burning ship situation. I then had to go back to him, later on, and bring up the previous conversation, leading the horse to water so to speak.
Kuppies realized he could call the Idera ship and before he knew it, a massive rip in space formed off the side of their skiff, and their ship arrived. Kuppies quickly commanded it to pickup Ekeraath and then fly along side the skiff. Their rescue was at hand and they quickly transferred to the new ship and sped off into the sea, quickly outdistancing the dragons.
Finally, they could rest, level up(to epic!), and raise Ford from the dead. Once that was accomplished, Kuppies found he was able to return the ship to the tower, so once again, a massive rift in space formed, and they flew through.
