As they neared the bottom of the stairs, the voice of Ford, mocking his torturers, "Is that the best you can do?", was undeniable. Completing their descent, Kuppies' illusion, that had allowed them easy access throughout the palace was dispelled, returning them once again to their normal appearance. It should be noted the Rudy's claws and Alexander's glowing arm could not be fully covered by the illusion.
Following Ford's voice, the heroes easy tracked it to his torture chamber. Floating near the entrance, and Ford's table, a legless Githyanki was interrogating him. Upon seeing the heroes, Ford looked right at him and said, "I told you they'd come!". Looking at his would be rescuers, he said, "Hey guys, about time you got....". Before he could finish the sentence, Xam'kras, the floating githyanki, told the torturer to kill him, and in an instant, Ford's light was extinguished...not even able to complete his final sentence.
At this point, I gave everyone a new power, usable immediately, but not again. +1 to hit, +1W for damage, but -3 to all defenses. I called it Reckless Vengeance. I thought it was a nice touch. Rudy and Alexander made full use of it. To my surprise, Ekeraath did not.
The combat was short and brutal. Rudy hammered the torturer with more damage than I think he's ever put out in a round. He fell shortly there after. Xam'kras and 2 other torturers didn't last much longer.
