After defeating Varis, the heroes searched the remaining sections of the cave and Kuppies found an ancient journal from Bigby, the owner of the last ring Kuppies was to retrieve.
The below is a copy/paste of exactly what Kuppies received.
After the war was lost, he remembered hearing about a place the Harper’s had spent a great deal of time investigating and hoping there was a reason, he went looking for it. He found this place.
Much like the Citadel of Seasons, the cavern with the glowing columns is a confluence of power. However, it is far less regulated. The Harper’s were trying to use it to create a teleportation device that would allow them to travel around the known world, without using teleportation circles.
The device never worked 100% properly. While it did, usually, deliver the user(s) to the correct location, it often dragged them back again a short, but random, time later. Bigby was able to overcome some of that limitation, using rituals to limit the range of the recall ability. This meant anyone using it to travel a short distance would be pulled back. However, going farther, or to another plane, the trip was one way.
There are several pages of rituals and details how to operate the levers of the machine to make it work properly. The levers are all that is needed, however, the ritual allows for much greater control. A second ritual, also in the book, allows the machine to traverse planes.
On the last page, there appears to be no writing until you serendipitously hold your Ring of High Wizardry near it. The ring begins to glow and it reveals a message left for any High Wizard finding the book. It is a brief note informing the reader that Bigby used the machine to transport himself to a plane where he would age at a much slower rate, allowing him to continue his research into the cause/location of the Darkness.
There are directions on how to use the machine to get there.
The note does caution that there are no promises of an easy return.
The party secured the location and activated the teleporter.
