Vampires!

Approaching the tower, the party opted to use stealth to try to get the lay of the land. Sneaking up the tower, they were able to determine several vampires were in the tower.

Despite a very basically laid out room, the battle waged for quite a while. The vampires making effective use of their powers and the terrain to limit the party's ability to inflict too much damage. As usual, Ekeraath lept into the middle of the fray and was promptly surrounded after using Come and Get It. He took several hard blows, but ultimately, the party prevailed and gained access to the altar that was the portal.
