Frictionless?!!?

With their spirits lifted, the newly leveled paragon adventurers delved farther into the Mountain of the White Plume. Ascending a short staircase, they finally left the muck behind. Rounding a corner, they came to a closed door. Investigating it, Rudy believed it to be trap free and unlocked. Cautiously opening it, a 20 foot wide and very long, empty, chamber was revealed.

Entering the chamber, the party quickly learned this room was anything but empty. As soon as they were all in, the song of a Harpy filled their ears. Everyone except Ekeraath fell prey to the song and headed toward the far end of the room. Much to their surprise, there was a frictionless floor and 2 rows of poison, spiked filled, pits.

To complicate matters, 2 ghost spiders seemed to come through the far wall. Leenia, having just climbed out of the second spiked pit, ended up face to face with one. She was almost paralyzed with fear. In the meantime, Ekeraath, having fallen in the far pit, pulled himself out and attempted to use the frictionless floor to his advantage. Throwing himself toward the far end of the room, hoping to leap over the other trap, that everyone had fallen in.

With everyone near the harpy and spiders, the heroes hoped to have a quick end to this battle, but the floor continued to hinder them as did Leenia's arachnophobia. Finally, they managed to overcome their adversaries and the floor to proceed on.

From an encounter perspective, the Harpy and Spiders were of party level, which means it should not have been a difficult fight. However, the floor and traps really raised the difficulty of the battle, far more than I expected.
