The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly - 12/18/08

The Good:

Passing through the door to the final challenger, the party entered into a luxuriously furnished room. A fire was roaring in the fireplace. Hung above the fireplace is a small tapestry with a picture of the mansion stitched into it. A huge library is located in one corner. A massive pool in another. Seated at a desk by the fire, appearing frozen in time was a man. On the desk was a book and in his hand a quill. The page he was writing only has the following: Burn the tapestry to herald my return and break the curse.

“We’ve found him,” whispered Leenia.

“Woah. Steven Amber at last,” said the dragonborne.

“Let’s free him and burn the tapestry,” said Cuppies.

“Woah, woah, wait. Hold on there. Let’s loot the room first!” exclaimed Rudy.

“That’s stealing, Rudy” said Leenia disapprovingly.

“I’m with Half Pint on this one. He’s been waiting five thousand years. What’s five more mnutes?” asked Alexander.

Muttering, Mara went over before anyone could say anything else, and set the tapestry on fire.

The Bad:

Passing through the door from the cloud room, the party found themselves at the foot of a hill. Behind them, a massive wall ran in both directions. Ahead of them, they saw a hill with what looks like a small tower on top. Three boulders sat at the top of the hill.

“Hey, check it out,” said Mara, pointing. “Boulders.”

“I don’t like the looks of this. This is clearly an Earth challenger,” murmured Ekerrath.
“Sehanin will protect us,” murmured Leenia.

About two seconds later, the boulders began moving down the hill.

“Uh.. hey guys? Do you see that?” asked Rudy.

They looked angry.

The Ugly:

The massive bone dragon spread its wings and moved them in a quick gesture. Suddenly, razor-sharp bone shards protruded from the dragonborne’s shield. “Watch out!” shouted Rudy, closest to the beast. “There’s just one of it. We can take it!” yelled Alexander, charging into the fray. Cuppies and Mara sent spell and arrow at the beast.

From within the shadows, behind the wizard and archer, crept four dragonkin kobolds, intent on backstabbing them unawares. The odds had just been evened.

Player Quotes:

(1) Josh: During your last session within the Castle Amber, the party inched closer to its goal of finding Steven Amber. They bested the chess puzzle. They were presented with four challenges that represented the elements of air, earth, water, and fire.”

Adam: “And Chess. Chess is an elemental force in Josh’s universe.”

(2) Josh: And as you turn the corner, you find enemies. Roll initiative for me, people.
Joel: I’ve been away from playing for long, that I’ve even forgotten how to roll initiative.

Mike: What? Because I’m dipping tobacco?

Cuppies. I rolled a 14.
(Josh passes a sheet of paper to Jeff.) Here’s what you know of magical lore on this creature.
(Jeff reads the paper.)
Cuppies: This creature is made of the bones of dead dragons.
Alexander: That’s something you picked up in your wizard school of the obvious? Did they teach you that this house is made of bricks, as well?
Joel: Alex got a degree in wise guy.

(9) Adam: You know those people at work who get close to you and breathe on you?
Jeff; Like Jen?
Adam: Ekerrath is one of those people. He gets close to you and breathes on you.

(10) Josh: You come across a scrying room, the center of which contains a pool filled with amber colored liquid. As you approach, the waters in the pool begin to swirl, coalescing into the reflected image of a map of your island.

Adam: Like Amber Earth!

(11) Steven Amber, one of the most powerful wizards ever: Your mission is to find these thieflings who have escaped with the gem and stop them. Remove the demon evil from within them, cleanse them from the world before they destroy it!”

Faced with overwhelming numbers and the threat that their ship will be burned, the leader of the shark people approaches.)
Shark leader: Give us the chest!
Cuppies (whispered): Take out the egg, then give them the chest.
