Descent into the catacombs

As the party descended the stairs into the basement of the cathedral, they found a hall that had been used to play Bingo in. A quick search found an empty kitchen and pillaged storeroom. There were 2 doors that had locks associated with numbers on the Bingo Board. This was no challenge to the party as they quickly put together the solution and opened the doors.

Each door led to a small embalming room. The goblins had never been smart enough to solve the bingo puzzle, so they had never progressed this far. Much to the surprise of the party, there were recent footprints in the dust, both entering and exiting the area. The rooms linked together in the middle to a small altar chamber, with stairs heading down to the catacombs

At this point, I asked everyone to go in the house for a minute. I setup LED candles on the table, put on some ambient noises, and turned off the lights. I liked the effect, as it truly set the stage for a dungeon crawl.

As the crawl began, the party entered a strangely shaped room and was attacked by several different types of zombie. Using the stupidity of the zombies, and layout of the catacombs to their advantage, the party was able to quickly dispatch them.

Further exploration found a room occupied by 2 zombie hulks. Once again, using the terrain to their advantage, the party was able to destroy them with minimal losses. They guarded the stairs down to the next level.

Completing exploration of the level, the party found a Healer's Brooch on one of the entombed priests and while Mara distracted Leenia, Rudy stole the Brooch. I will admit, I was disappointed in the outcome of this as I had hoped to spur a debate between Leenia and the rest of the group over the appropriateness of taking this item.

The final thing of note the party found was the tomb of Melf the Wizard, found of the Tower of Wizardry at the Citadel. Melf's ghost spoke to the party, telling them to seek Stephen for he can answer many of their questions.
