After defeating the dragon, the party returned to where they had found it. They approached a raised dias that was placed in front of a wall at the end of a hallway. Evenly distributed around the outside of the table are hand prints of each of the races. Engraved in the center of the table is the phrase: “Only in unity can site be gained or removed.”
An easy mechanism for the characters to invoke, but impossible for a Dragon. The mechanism was designed to work with up to 2 missing races, in this case, dwarf and half-elf were missing.
Once everyone had placed their hands in the appropriate locations, the wall faded away to reveal the Gemstone Room.
This hexagonal room has one feature. In the center of the room, on an elevated dias, floating in mid air, glowing brightly is a gemstone. You can immediately feel the power contained within it.
As the party approached the dias, Damakos began laughing.
He says, it is time my friends. As he says it, a dozen Tiefling Warlocks became visible. All of them pointing wands at the party, ready to attack.
Fortunately, the party was smart enough to surrender and hand over their weapons, all except the dragonborn who swore never to weild his axe against Damakos. The party was tied up and the weapons tossed into the nearest open pit trap.
Once everyone was secured, Damakos approached the gemstone and removed it, placing it in a large bag. He turned to one of his lackeys, Melech, go check the dock, can we leave?
A minute later, Melech returned, “It is as you expected, the shield is gone and the boats are ready. We can depart whenever you wish.
There is no need to delay, turning to the party, he tells them to go tell their precious council that the Cult of the Infernal Fang has returned and taken the gem for their master.
With that, Damakos and the rest of the Cult of the Infernal Fang leave.
I have to admit, the invisibility thing was a little cheesy, but I needed it. From the start, Damakos was going to betray the party. The Cult of the Infernal Fang gives the party an evil organization and Damakos a great villian.

A nice twist.
So we've learned the following from the council:
(1) They hid the existence of Tieflings on the island so that the other races wouldn't kill them all.
(2) Then 500 years ago the Tieflings sort of muttered and grumbled and the council secretly went and killed half of them anyways. These were the order of the infernal Fang.
(3) So the council has blood on their hands. They're not exactly the nicest group of people.
(4) Also, the council is a rather inefficient governmental body. Since they systematically destroyed half the population on the island and they still didn't get them all.
(5) Not only has the council demonstrated some ineptitude in treating the Tiefling population, they didn't even think to set up a defensive contigent to guard the most important defensive installation on the island.
(6) And when they did hear that the single most important defensive installation on the island was threatened, they sent a bunch of newbies and didn't tell them to 'don't put your hands in the dais thingy since that's the secret to the island defense.'
Hm.
And also, if you're a great magician charged with protecting the island defenses, wouldn't you go for a combination of DNA scan (the hands in the dais) AND a password? Slightly better security maybe? After all, the lives of EVERYONE hang in the balance.
:) I hope you realize I'm kidding here. But these are good notes to take should you ever want to establish a survivalist compound of your own when the End of Days draws near.
