Catching up with Quesnef

I'm a little late in posting this, but it's been hell at work this week.

This week I had had enough of the guys trouncing through my encounters of level+3, so I cranked this one up to level+4 and provided a setting that would not allow them to utilize some of their favorite tactics.

Chasing Quesnef up a rickety staircase, the heroes found themselves on a small landing, with 2 Lingerer Knights. In the center of the room, surrounded by numerous holes and weak spots in the floor was another lingerer, this one a Fell Incanter. Flanking the party at opposite sides of the room were 2 demonic flameskulls. Finally, Quesnef was at the far end of the room, on a balcony.

The Lingerer knights were soldiers, something I don't use a lot of, but I wanted them to bottle the party up, and they did a great job of it. On top of that, once killed, they rose again as Fey Lingerer Knights. The Fell Incanter had the same ability, to rise again. The demonic flameskulls and Quesnef offered a great deal of artillery, clobbering the party from afar.

This was a major, 2 hour, slug fest. Even Ekeraath had to use a second wind at one point. In the end, the party prevailed, but for the first time, in a while, they were a bit nervous.
