As the door is opened, a massive gust of wind assaulted the party. Looking past the door, there was a large cloud that they instinctively knew would support them all. Looking across the vast bottomless sky, there were six clouds to jump across before reaching the other side.
Tying themselves together, the party began to jump from cloud to cloud. Kuppies led the way, followed by Ekeraath, Rudy, Mara, Alexander, and lastly Leenia. As Kuppies made it to the fourth cloud, a massive wyvern flew out from under the clouds and attacked. The wyvern was marked by Ekeraath who kept it busy throughout combat. Kuppies pummeled it with spell after spell while Rudy did his part. Mara's arrows were having a difficult time finding their mark with all the wind. Alexander, not one to be left out of combat, decided to try throwing his sword, figuring it would return, much as it did on the boat. Unfortunately, a terrible throw later, and it was falling through the clouds.
The next round, everyone realized the floor wasn't that far away as the sword was teleported to the top of the room and began falling again. Alexander, seeing his lost weapon, jumped for the first cloud, and missed. Leenia attempted to catch the rope and pull him up, was overcome by the sudden tug and pulled into open space and began falling as well. Mara likewise was unable to stop the fall and ended up being pulled off her cloud. Rudy was quick enough to cut the rope and stop himself from going over.
The next round, Rudy rolled a 1 and fell off his cloud. Ekeraath failed his save and the two of them were both falling. Kuppies cut the rope that was tied to him. Fortunately, the wyvern was near death and Kuppies was able to finish it off and finish leaping across.
Sadly, the rest of the party was in worse condition. Constantly falling, they were all gaining speed and landing on any cloud would have inflicted substantial damage.
Alexander realized that Kuppies had a potion of flying they had picked up in Averoigne and suggested he use it to rescue everyone. Kuppies complied and soon the party was on the other side of the room.
Rudy went to open the door and after pointing out to Mike that is was 1:15AM, he still tried to open it. I responded....I don't know what's behind the door, I haven't finished the tomb.
I have to add, this room worked exactly as I had hoped. The wyvern was less of a challenge than I had hoped, but the falling and pulling each other off was entertaining. Falling damage was 1d10 plus 1d6 for every round. Adam's inability to save had Leenia up to 1d10 plus 4d6. So Bob's idea to use the potion of flying really was a great idea.
