Catching up with the Cult

After their conversation with Erdan, the party drinks the potion and heads off to try to catch the 3 members of the Cult of the Infernal Fang who are transporting the Seal of the Seasons. The party leaves the citadel feeling recharged and perhaps even lighter. They are moving at a pace that far exceeds the norm and aren't tiring. Shortly after leaving the Citadel, they pass the remains of the Hobgoblins archers they allowed to flee. They had obviously been dispatched by Warlocks. As they crested the top of a hill, they found themselves looking down a long slightly sloping road that winds its way to the sea, several miles away.

A short distance down the hill, there is a small group of buildings that was probably used as a guard area. Laying in the center of the road, they saw what must be the Seal of the Seasons. There was no sign of the Cult. As Rudy and Mara began to sneak through the ruins, a Warlock from the Cult of the Infernal Fang stepped out from his hiding place and attacked. Combat was joined by the rest of the party and the 3 members of the Cult proved to be little match for the Saviors of the Citadel. The final member of the Cult chose to end his life rather than risk capture by blowing his face off with his Eldritch Blast. His final act was to lean over his staff and blast upward. The purpose was to kill himself and send a signal to the ship that they had been defeated. Right after this, a thick fog rolled over the shore completely hiding the departure of Damakos' ship.

I must admit, I was a bit disappointed in how this encounter played out. Controlling the 3 warlocks proved challenging at the least for me. Having rolled them up 3+ weeks ago, their powers were not as fresh in my mind as I would have liked. Add to that, the party rolled well and the encounter was far to easy for them.
