Blog Mistake-Out of Order

I left off one important detail. At the end of the encounter with the Warlocks, a small bird landed on Mara's shoulder and told her to ask Erdan about the letter.

When asked,Erdan presented a letter Melech had left with him.

To those we betrayed on the Island,

My name is Melech, you may remember it as Damakos called me by name to check the ships. When he first approached me, and some of the others, to join the Cult of the Infernal Fang, he promised it would only be to get us off that accursed island. He promised us all he would do his best to not harm anyone in the process.

What was left of the Tiefling nation there was dying, his promises seemed like a ray of light on a dark and stormy day. How he knew of the cave and the ships inside, I know not. His patron may have told him, or he may have just discovered it. Either way, he had seen everything inside, with the exception of the gem room, before he entered with you.

I believe much of his knowledge of the island and surrounding area came from the library there. Using a ritual, he was able to invisibly traverse most of the cave without incident….I don’t even think the old librarian knew he was there.

He did keep his promise about not harming anyone to get off the island, but since then, he has become much darker and colder. His charisma as a leader still has most of the Cult blindly following him, but I have begun to doubt his intentions. There may be others, but they, like me, are afraid to come forward within the group. Damakos has shown his true nature and it is dark, cruel, and completely evil. He would trade all our lives to satisfy whatever his plan is. And if it is what I believe, be very afraid. I fear to even write down what I think he is planning, it is so heinous.

At this point, I can only tell you that you have an ally within the ranks of those you pursue. Damakos keeps his plans to himself, but it does seem as if he is gathering ancient magic items for some undoubtedly nefarious purpose. As I learn more, I will attempt to get word to you. At any town you suspect we have been to, visit each inn and ask if there is a letter for Julius, it will be from me.
