With Alexander at the wheel, Leenia in the crowsnest, and Rudy sleeping on deck, 3 Sahuagin Raiders snuck onboard to attack. This was my first attempt to raise the combat level for the party. These are 3 level 6 monsters.
Another great battled ensued with Ekeraath taking the lead with cover from Leenia. The 3 sahuagin were done in by round 4. Alexander did take quite a beating.
On a sadder note, the other boat was also attacked. During the ensuing battle, the ship caught fire and everyone except Michael and 2 others were killed. The party was able to rescue the three survivors without additional combat.
Michael continues to lead the way to his home: Neesk.

This was a fun and challenging fight. Thanks Josh, for kicking up the difficulty level a notch!
We were definitely lucky - we burnt all our action points, and most of us hit with our daily powers, which helped tremendously. If we had missed a few dice rolls, this could have been an ugly conclusion.
Alexander spent three of the four rounds flanked by two of the creatures. It was also extremely lucky that he kept himself healed just one point beyond bloodied, since Josh hinted that they get some nasty powers if the target is bloodied.
I know Ekerrath really wanted to bull rush one of those guys over the ship's rail - but in retrospect it was probably good that he didn't. They would have just climbed back up ultimately. (and he did have Warlord's Favor (+4/+4) on the one he wanted to bull rush.)
We were also very lucky that one of our melee fighters wasn't in the crow's nest at the time, but instead Leenia was up there with her lances of faith and her bow. That was definitely fortunate.
I was looking back and realized that I choose 'toughness' for Alexander's second level feat. In hindsight, this turned out to be a very smart move. This fight took me down to 6 hps, and toughness gave me five extra. Also, by getting those 5 hps, it increased the amount of my healing surges from 7 to 9. Which kept me from being bloodied and taking even more damage. I'm pretty certain if Alexander hadn't taken toughness for his second level, he would have been the first of the party to go down to zero hps.
One more note - I've made it a point not to read the monster manual, so I can be surprised when we encounter a new creature and its special powers. I hope you don't mind, Josh, if sometimes at the start of a fight, I ask about the creatures we're fighting - what they look like or what my character knows about them.
I can see there might be occassions where only Cappy knows from his arcane training (or from a history check) that a monster is vulnerable to fire, and he has to shout it to the rest of us. That would be pretty cool.
Feel free to read through the Monster Manual, just don't linger too long on stuff you might end up fighting.
You couldn't possibly retain all that much info.
